Seoul City Sights
Seoul City Sights My first stop for my three week backpacking East Asian journey in November 2006 was Seoul, the capital of the Republic of Korea. The Korean capital is clean, beautiful and friendly. It has an excellent mix of old and new - the ultra modern highrises in contrasts to Joseon dynasty palaces. This is my last article on Seoul, South Korea and covers the city sights of this city. Seoul has some very amazing and futuristic skyscrapers. The new business districts and Myeongdong are good places for shopping and browsing. For more traditional neighbourhoods, Insadong is not to be missed. I also visited an electronic market, Dongdaemun (Great East Gate market) and Namdaemun market (Great South Gate market) as well. Namdaemun ...

Food and Drink of Nicaragua during Tour
Food and Drink of Nicaragua during Tour Food is very cheap. A plate of food from the street will cost 20-50 cordobas. A typical dinner will consist of a meat, rice, beans, salad and some fried plantains, costing under 3 dollars US. A lot of the food is fried in oil (vegetable or lard). It is very easy to be vegetarian as the most common dish is gallo pinto, which is red beans and rice. If you like meat try the nacatamales, a tamal made with pork, for 15 cordobas. Plantains are a big part of the Nicaraguan diet. You will find it prepared in a variety of forms: fried, baked, boiled, with cream or cheese, as chips for a dip, smashed into a toston. Nicaraguan tortillas are made from corn flour and are thick, almost resembling a pita. One common dish is ...

Important advice for birdwatchers in Senegal
Important advice for birdwatchers in Senegal On the road from Kouhgheul to Payar to Velingara to Linguere you will see all the birds you did not see so far in Gambia and on the Senegal coast. It is unbelievable that this area is not yet discovered by birdwatchers. The road is a sandy one but you can do it with a two-wheel drive like we did. If you take water you can do it on foot in three or four days. Locals are very friendly and will offer you a place to stay and food. Every 10 to 15 km you will find a village on this road. The landscape was of extreme beauty.

Marshall Islands: Money & Costs
Marshall Islands: Money & Costs By international standards, travel in the Marshalls is relatively cheap, though by those same standards you'll be getting what you pay for. Most accommodations tend toward the austere (with the exception of Majuro, where food choice is great for the Pacific) and there's not a whole lot to splurge on, food-wise, even if you wanted to. Restaurants don't exist outside the major atolls, and official hostelries are almost as scarce. Budget travellers should just be able to get by on US$50.00 per day, but that doesn't leave much room for things like scuba diving and island hopping. You'll have more fun if you plan on spending closer to US$100.00 daily. There are banks in all the major tourist areas and credit cards are bec...

Nightlife in Mexico
Nightlife in Mexico If you talk about nightlife in Mexico, the nights dazzle. Whether you go for a sunset margaritas at a quiet terrace on the Cliffside or a twilight cruise with cocktails, or some wines and music in the bars and nightclubs, Mexico is there to make your night lively and boisterous. Added to the charms of the natural attractions in Mexico is the Nightlife in Mexico which is not only vibrant but pulsating too. Nightlife in Mexico hovers around bars and pubs, nightclubs, theaters, twilight cruises and along all the streets in the cities around Mexico. There are a huge number of bars, clubs, restaurants and pubs in Mexico. Tourists as well as locals visit bars and pubs as also the nightclubs and discotheques to enjoy a stim...

When to Go Bosnia and Herzegovina
When to Go Bosnia and Herzegovina The best time to visit is spring or summer; skiers should come between December and February. The weather is a mix of Mediterranean and Central European and is more or less agreeable year round, though both summer and winter extremes can sometimes be daunting. You needn't worry about any seasonal crush of tourists just yet. Typical to the region, Bosnia has hot summers and chilly winters. Winters average a daily high around 3°C (37°F) and snow tends to linger at higher altitudes. In summer rainfall is slightly heavier but the sunny, 26°C (79°F) July days are a treat. Hercegovina has warmer winters, and hot summers, with July and August temperatures reaching 40°C at times. Springtime (April and May) is the best...

Exquisite Graaff Reinet, S Africa
Exquisite Graaff Reinet, S Africa Graaff Reinet is one of the jewels of Eastern Cape. The old town is marvelously preserved with Cape Dutch and Afrikaans architecture. In my opinion, it was one of the most beautiful towns I have ever seen. The Dutch reformed church at the main square was a focal point of visit, as was the Reinet House. Unfortunately we only had one and a half hours at this beautiful town.

Food and Drink of Paraguay
Food and Drink of Paraguay Eat You'll find much of the standard South American cuisine here - beans, rice, with some Brazilian influence as well (fried bananas, pineapple). Also highly popular are empanadas (meat/egg stuffed in a pastry and baked) and milanesa (breaded and fried chicken/beef/fish) - these are considered fast food, and are also found in other countries in the region. If you order a hamburger at a restaurant, expect it to come topped with a fried egg. Asado (BBQ) is great, and prices are quite reasonable - 20000 Guaranis ($3.20 US) will get you an all-you-can-eat buffet at many nice places. 5000 Guarani is enough to pay for a hamburger. Paraguayan food isn't particularly spicy, so those who can't tolerate spices won't have probl...

Zimbabwe is a beautiful, temperate land of raw African wilderness and ancient mystery
Zimbabwe is a beautiful, temperate land of raw African wilderness and ancient mystery Named after the ruined civilization of centuries ago, Zimbabwe evokes images of huge, game-rich plateaus such as the majestic Hwange National Park, the massive Lake Kariba and the incredible Victoria Falls. It also evokes images of social and political chaos, which lead most potential visitors to think a Zimbabwe safari is unsafe. The reality is quite different - although Zimbabwe's cities are unstable, the country's national parks are perfectly safe to visit, as they are located far away from the sites of the instability. Due to Zimbabwe's negative news coverage, game lodges are desperate for occupants and prices are extremely competitive. Whether staying in standard or luxury Zimbabwe accommodation, the low lo...
