The Durmitor is a massif and the name of a national park in the northwestern Montenegro.This breathtaking national park was formed by glaciers and is traversed by rivers and underground streams. Along the Tara river canyon, which has the deepest gorges in Europe, the dense pine forests are interspersed with clear lakes and harbour a wide range of endemic flora. Durmitor National Park comprises Mount Durmitor plateau and the valley formed by the canyon of the River Tara, incorporating three major geomorphologic features: canyons, mountains and plateaux. It was inscribed on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1980.

Durmitor offer stunning scenery and the many walled towns like Kotor have mazes of cobbled streets inviting you to get lost and explore. Wildlife is abundant in the hills, and hikers might on occasion come across a wolf or bear in the very remote parts of the country.

Durmitor features 18 glacial lakes, scattered over mountain massif and Jezerska Površ plateau. The lakes add significantly to the beauty of the mountain, and have been nicknamed Gorske O?i, or Eyes of the Mountain.

Durmitor mountain is the centre of Montenegrin mountain tourism. The tourist facilities are concentrated around the town of Žabljak.During winter, the main activities on Durmitor are skiing and, increasingly, snowboarding. In the summer, the activities shift to hiking, mountaineering and recreational tourism. One of the most prominent attraction of Durmitor mountain are 18 glacial lakes, best known being Crno Lake.
