This cultural tour explores the western Bhutan's cultural heritage and historical sites. Driving through the western valleys, the tour offers stunning views of snow capped Himalayan Mountains. This tour also explores the beautiful Phobjikha Valley, winter home to the rare Black-Necked Crane and excursion to Haa valleys via the beautiful Chellela Pass. Highlights include the Ta Dzong Museum, Rimpong Dzong, hike to the infamous Taktsang Monastery (Tiger's Nest), The National Memorial Chorten, 12th century Changangkha Temple, the National Library exhibiting ancient scriptures, Phobjikha Sanctuary and Punakha Dzong.
Detail Information
Day 1 – Arrival at Paro – Thimphu

Once you arrive at the Paro International Airport, you will be greeted by our English speaking guide. Your guide is also your tour host and a friend. After welcome drinks and settling comfortably; sightseeing around Paro, including a visit to the Ta Dzong Museum housing a rare collections of carefully preserved Bhutanese arts, crafts, paintings, woven textiles, and sculptures offering a great orientation into Bhutan’s historical, cultural, and religious past..Next, visit the Rimpong Dzong aka the “fortress of the heap of jewels”, built in 1646 AD. Afterwards, drive to the capital, Thimphu (1 hour) following the Pachu River. Overnight at your hotel in Thimphu.

Day 2 – Thimphu

Enjoy full day sightseeing including, Handicraft Emporium which has a wide variety of displaying assortment of beautifully hand-woven and handcrafted products; National Textile Museum , under the patronage of Her Majesty the Queen Ashi Sangay Choden Wangchuk opened its exhibition; Folk heritage Museum aka Phelchy Toenkhyim, dedicated to connecting people to the Bhutanese rural past through exhibition and demonstration.

After lunch, continue on to National Institute for Zorig Chusum (Painting School), National Institute of Traditional Medicine. Next visit National Library which was established in 1967 with the primary objective of collecting and preserving mainly ancient Bhutanese written and printed documents.

Day 3 – Thimphu – Punakha

Drive to Punakha over the Dochu-La pass (3,100 meters), which on a clear day offers an incredible view of Himalayan peaks snowclad mountains bodering Tibet from the pass before descending into balmy Punakha valley. Punakha, the ancient capital of Bhutan. Visit Punakha Dzong which is located between Pho Chu (Male River) and Mo Chu (Female River) the "Palace of Great Happiness" built in 1637.

After lunch, visit to Chimi Lhakhang, temple of Drukpa Kuenly, who is known as the Divine Madman for his accentric behaviours. He is also considered a symbol of fertility and many childless couples go to his temple for blessing. Overnight in Punakha/ Wangduephodrang.

Day 4 – Punakha – Gangtay/Phobjikha

After breakfast, drive to Phobjikha Valley (3 hrs) via Wangduephodrang. On arrival in Gangtay, visit Gangtay Gompa dating back to the 17th century, and enjoy the scenic Phobjikha valley, which is also the winter home of Black Necked Cranes that migrate from the arid plains in the north (Tibetan plateau) to pass their winter in the milder and the lower climate. Phobjikha is one of Bhutan’s few glacial valleys and offers incredible scene. Overnight at your hotel in Phobjikha.

Day 5 – Phobjikha – Thimphu – Paro

Drive back to Thimphu. On arrival visit to the Tashichhodzong, National Memorial Chorten, completed by the Royal Queen Mother in the memory of her son the Third King who passed away in 1972, Kuensel Phodrang, The Motithang Takin Preserve also known as the Thimphu Zoo and 12th century Changangkha Temple.

After lunch, continue to Paro. On arrival in Paro you may enjoy a visit to the downtown area, stroll and explore the markets. Overnight at your hotel in Paro.

Day 6 – Paro

After breakfast hike to Taktsang Monastery, the wooded structure stands bravely on a cliff in the upper Paro Valley. The walk of approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. It is said that the great Guru Rimpoche have flown here on the back of a tigress and set up this monastery when he brought the teachings of the Buddhist Dharma to Bhutan in the 8th Century.

After lunch visit to the Drukgyel Dzong, with the delightful village nestling at its foot, was built in 1646 to commemorate the victory over the Tibetans invasions. On the return drive to Paro, visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the 108 temples constructed by the Tibetan king Songtsen Gampo to subdue the ogress that lay across the whole of the Himalayas.

Day 7 – Excursion to Haa Valley

A day excursion to the Haa Valley, reached via the beautiful Chellela Pass, offers an incredible view of Himalayan peaks snowclad mountains from the pass before descending into balmy Haa valley. Haa Valley is more than beautiful. The valley offers most scenic beauty, characterized by the rugged, mountainous landscape. Overnight at your hotel in Paro.

Day 8 – Departure.

In the morning drive to the Airport for flight to your onward destination.
