Aalsmeer is a municipality and a town in the Netherlands, in the province of North Holland. Its name is derived from the Dutch for eel (aal) and lake (meer). Located practically next door to Schiphol Airport Aalsmeer is where the countrys flower growers hold their auctions. This corporate floraculture can be seen on tours weekday mornings. In season stroll along elevated walkways above hundreds of thousands of flowers bundled on large carts. Tons of flowers are auctioned packed and whisked off to the airport by early afternoon for same-day delivery worldwide.
