This is nice place to take your family for outing or if you are visiting as tourist then you need at least one day plan to see all zoo activities.
Currently, Dusit Zoo has been opened for more than 66 years. There are more than 1,600 domestic and international wild lives in Dusit Zoo and there are approximately 2.5 million people coming to Dusit Zoo.
Dusit Zoo (Khao Din) is a very popular place for family with children or even for young couple and all ages. This zoo and park is located at Rama V Road, Dusit , Bangkok, and adjacent to the Old Parliament. Local Thai people know that Dusit Zoo has lush green surrounds and many flowering shrubs and trees with large ponds complete with foot-paddle boats, play –
grounds for the kids and shady picnic areas. There are some restaurants with pleasant scenery and a lot of parking areas.
The animals are generally sorted according to species. For instance the zoo has one of the worlds best collections of gibbon species, and they are placed together. Likewise there is a row of deer and a bird island. You will find, of course the large mammals of the area, such as indian elephants, rhinos and tapirs. One of the most popular sights however is the hippo group, especially when the animals are feed.
Dusit Zoo was formerly a part of the Royal Dusit Garden Palace, called Khao Din Wana, which was set up by King Rama V as his private botanical garden. In 1938, the Royal Thai government under Field Marshal P. Pibunsongkhram, then prime minister, asked the King for the land to set up the zoo for the public. King Rama VIII granted the land and the government appointed the Bangkok Municipality to the build the zoo in March 1938. The zoo was turned over to the Zoological Park Organization of Thailand in 1954.
In B.E.2497 or approximately 50 years ago, the Zoological Park Organization under the Royal Patronage of H.M. The King of the Kingdom of Thailand has been established in order to be the government agency responsible for directly taking care of the zoos. Currently, Zoological Park Organization under the Royal Patronage of H.M. The King has 5 zoos under its responsibilities consisting of Dusit Zoo, Chiang Mai Zoo, Kao Kheow Open Zoo, Nakhon Ratchasima Zoo, and Song Kla Zoo which has been opened for people and tourists since B.E.2541. However, the first zoo in Thailand is much older than that and has interesting and attractive history.
