With slogans such as Welcome to Poland or I am staying in Poland. All welcome, the Polish Tourist Board has positioned a tongue-in-cheek image depicting a Polish plumber to promote Poland to French tourists.
Poking fun at his ugly stereotype as a threat to French jobs, the Polish plumber is seen on the advertisement, posted in the Polish Tourist Boards Website, clutching a wrench and pipes against mountain ranges or baroque backdrop.
The Polish plumber imagery was instrumental in France No-vote during the referendum on the EU constitution.
A Polish tourist board spokesperson has said the French have mostly taken it in good humor and many have asked us to put the image on mugs and T-shirts, UK paper The Telegraph reported.
Frances plumbers union has dispelled the French paranoia saying only 150 Poles were working in the country.
