Kinderdijk is a region located south west of Rotterdam famous for the high concentration of windmills. Here you can find number of windmills every where. You can know about their work in detail by visiting here. It has its own scenic beauty.


High concentration of windmills and for being a UNESCO heritage site. Here you can find a few dozens of windmills built between XVI and the XVIII century that were used to dry polders. Nowadays polders are kept dry by electrical pumps, even if windmills can be still activated in emercency cases.

A curiosity: the oldest windmill, which dated back to the XVI century burnt in 1999 and was then rebuilt exactly as it was. You can easily recognize it because its shape is different from all the other ones.


From April till October you can visit one of those windmills and get an idea of how they worked.
