The heart and soul of Tibet is an object of devout pilgrimage. Tibet, the Rooftop of the World, is locked away in the mountain fortress of the Himalayas and was opened to tourism in the mid 1980s. Most of Tibet is an immense plateau with altitudes from 4000 m to 5000 m. The elevation can cause some discomfort so the walk should be well-paced by each individual.
