Maluane is a large conservation area and will comprise five lodges built on three islands and the mainland.
Vamizi Island Lodge, which is already open, has 12 luxury beach villas; the nine-room luxury lodge on Rongui Island will be completed at the end of this year, as will the 12-room lodge on Macaloe Island. In 2006, work will begin on Paqueve Lodge, a 12-room safari beach lodge, and the 24-bed Lake Macungue luxury lakeshore safari lodge.
Activities will centre on adventure and eco-tourism and include wildlife viewing, game drives and water-based activities such as fishing and scuba-diving. As the development has a strong conservation and community focus, all lodge activities will in some way benefit the area and the communities who live there.
Maluane is very remote and access is by air with regular flights between Johannesburg and Pemba and Dar es Salaam and Pemba
