Nias is an island west of Sumatra, south of the island of Simeulue. The term Pulau means Island in Indonesian.
Nias is composed of two provinces, viz. Nias Utara (North) and Nias Seletan(South).
Nias is known as an exotic surfer’s paradise. Its tourism infrastructure is basic and mainly caters for backpack (surfer) tourists.
In Indonesia, Nias is also known for its tradition in ‘stone jumping’, done by young men, see the photo gallery section.
