Phawangpui, also known as the Blue Mountain known for breathtaking views of blue hazed hills and vales. is situated in the Chhimtuipui district. Phawngpui is the highest mountain peak of Mizoram which is positioned at an altitude of 2165 meters. Famous for rhododendron and orchids, Phawngpui is one of the most beautiful sites of Mizoram.
The Blue Mountain, a highly revered peak, is considered to be the abode of Gods. The peak, covered with a rich cover of rhododendrons and orchids, provides the most spectacular view of Mizoram. Phawngpui in Mizoram possesses a semi-circular cliff, known as Thlazung Khamm, towards the western side. The cliff characterized with sharp and deep fall, is believed to be a haunted cliff. Phawngpui is said to be haunted by spirits.
Phawngpui contains a level ground that is about 200 hectares in area. The level area on the peak is surrounded by matted bamboo forest and other vegetations. Many rare butterflies are found in the Phawngpui peak.
The nearest airport to Phawngpui is Aizwal, which is connected with regular flights to Imphal and Kolkata. The tourists can reach Phawngpui by road. Silchar is the nearest railway station. Aizwal is connected to the different parts of India through Silchar. The tourists can avail of the buses and taxis in order to reach the site from Aizwal.
