Phu Quoc island to become international tourism centre

Efforts will be made to develop ecological tourism services so that by 2010, top-notch tourist resorts and entertainment centers will be established to serve between 300,000-350,000 visitors a year. Upgrades will continue until 2020 to turn Phu Quoc into a modern tourist centre capable of receiving between 2-3 million visitors per year.

New residential areas, sanatoriums, first-class amusement centers, a marine sports centre, a trade and food centre and an international conference centre will be built on the island. New tours will be also launched such as Phu Quoc-Ha Tien-Chau Doc, Nui Sam-Ha Tien-Phu Quoc and tours of Thailand, Cambodia and Malaysia.

Kien Giang Province will coordinate with Ho Chi Minh City to hold a press briefing to present the island’s development plans, its potential, new policies and mechanisms. Phu Quoc is the largest island with largest population among nine island districts in Viet Nam. The island is 500 km from the tourism and industrial centre in southeastern Thailand, 700 km from eastern Malaysia, about 1,000 km from Singapore and close to the southwestern gate of Cambodia.
