After Madrid, I took an overnight train to Barcelona. The largest city in Catalonia, Barcelona is distinctly different from Madrid. The city has Catalan, Spanish and often English signs. It is a city full of grand and unique Moderniste architecture, many of the sites are world heritage sites. The work of Gaudí is unforgettable. The tour of the magnificent Palau de la Música is not to be missed. The Gothic Quarter, or Barri Gotic, is an amazing jumble of medieval streets. Another great spot is Montjuic with the National Palace and the model Spanish Village. Definitely another one of my favourite places in the world.
