Scottsdale is a popular holiday destination in Arizona. It has many well equipped resorts, great golf courses and you are sure to tan fast in the middle of the desert.
The main sight is Frank Lloyd Wright’s summer home in Talieson West, just on the outskirts of Scottsdale. It is well worth the drive, even if you aren’t a big architecture fan, you might still find the home interesting.
For an afternoon’s scenic drive, start abvout 1 mile north of Pinnacle Peak Road and drive up to Carefree, desert plants dot the road and are identified by signs. A stop at The Cactus Garden and you’ll be all set to take a cactus home with you or send one by post.
Pinnacle Peak can be seen from most areas and if you’re into hiking there is a great trail that winds around Pinncale Peak and you’ll get to see some multi-million dollar homes while you’re at it. You might also want to try the restaurant that’s there. It is great fun.
For the young or young at heart, Scottsdale also has good shopping areas as well as a night scene with accommodations close enough to bar hop (walking distance). A car ride will take you to the Salt River in Tonto National Forest where you can inner tube down the river! Open May through October. Tube rental and shuttle services offered and you can bring your own beverages (anything not in glass bottles).
