Simferopol is the capital of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea in southern Ukraine. The area of the city was inhabited from the ancient times. The limestone plateau at the south-eastern corner of the contemporary city was home to the capital of the late Scythean state, known to the ancient Greeks and Romans as Scythian Neapolis.

As Crimea went on with its development as a nation-wide resort, Simferopol turned to the hub of the Crimean region. The tourists from all corners of the country arrived at the railway station or airport and followed further to Southern Coast using a specially built trolleybus route.
