St.Petersburg

St.Petersburg is one of the worlds most beautiful cities famous for its picturesque settings and impressive architecture. Its historical centre is included in UNESCO World Heritage list. Founded in 1703 as the window on the West by Peter the Great, St.Petersburg was the capital of the Russian Empire for over two centuries. Built on 42 islands linked by over 350 bridges, St.Petersburg is affectionately called the Venice of the North. The cultural capital of Russia has over 100 various museums, among which are the State Hermitage Museum, the largest museum in the world with more than 3 mln exhibits; Peterhof, the former official summer residence of the Russian Tsars, famous for its 150 fountains; Catherine’s Palace with the Gold suite of rooms and Amber Room, the 8th wonder of the world; the Church in the Spilt Blood with more than 7,000 sq.m. of mosaics, which beats any other place in the world decorated with mosaics.
