The crater of an extinct volcano that measures 16km (10 miles) across, is found near the lagoon. About 7 miles from the Viti Levu coast lies the region, famous for the red prawns which are regarded to be very safe and sacred by the local people.

Vanua Levua and Taveuni are particularly good for land-based diving. Many ecological-minded operators have bought dozens of sites to prevent damage to these anchors. The best sites around this island include the Somosomo Straits, which is the home to the Great White Wall, (one of Fiji’s most famous dive sites) and the Rainbow Reef (Over 20 dive sites can be found here).Islands such as Ngau, which have no resorts are very suitable for dive tours. Here the permission has to be taken from the local chief for diving.

There are many hotels which offer opportunities for sailing, windsurfing, waterskiing, canoeing, kayaking, parasailing and game fishing. Surfing is a popular activity in Fiji and there are many places where the surfers can go for surfing. Among the places, Tavarua attracts a lot of surfers from around the world. There are several surf camps, notably on Beqa and Yanuca islands which are hot tourist destinations.

Things to do in Fiji involving adventure sports: The numerous tidal corridors which have a long line of mangrove trees can be explored on jet boats. These boats depart every 15 minutes from the port of Denauru which is located about 4 miles from the Nadi town. Another favorite activity is ‘bamboo rafting’ along the streams and rivers.
