Govindghat is situated on the banks of Alaknanda River at an elevation of 1,828 mts, it is the starting point of the trek to Hemkund Sahib. Govindghat is well connected by motorable roads. The trek from Govindghat to Ghangharia is steep and covers 13 kms. The remaining 6 kms trek to Hemkund Sahib is steep and is graded moderate.
