Uzgen is a small town on the old Silk Route in the south of Kyrgyzstan between Jalal-abad and Osh. The main attractions in Uzgen are the 12th-century mausoleum and tower, and the bazaar. The mausoleum,built by the Karakhanids, is featured on one of the Kyrgyz some notes. The bazaar is extensive and the main source of produce, cloth, and housewares for the villages in the area. Uzbeks are the primary merchants in this bazaar.
Uzgen is on the main road and accessible easily from Osh or Jalal-abad by taxi. From Jalal-abad it is an easy 1-hour trip. From Osh the road is perpetually under construction. The rough ride is about 2 hours.
