Wewak is the capital of the East Sepik province of Papua New Guinea. It is located on the northern coast of the island of New Guinea. It is the largest town between Madang and Jayapura.
Wewak is a really great place. I was there about 25 years ago. The main beach occasionally has a great surf and there are nearby uninhabited islands that have sulphur springs (as in about 30cm in diameter pumping at about 3000 liters per minute) with white sandy beaches. It’s the closest thing to heaven on earth next to The Trobriand Islands.
