Wildlife in Marshall Islands

Marshall Islands does not have a very fertile land and most of the land area is covered with sands, cobbles, gravel, boulders, debris of limestone, beach rock. A considerable amount of wood is found from the trees and some of the trees are also used for the purpose of medicine and perfume. Marshall Islands is also home to various species of birds like Mallard, Gargarey, Gadwall, Black noddy, Tufted Duck, Canvasback, Sanderling and so on.

The wide variety of Flora and Fauna in Marshall Islands include:
Coral: Marshall Islands are the home to diverse species of corals.180 species of coral can be found on Arno Atoll and 156 species of coral can be found on Majuro Atoll.
Marine Flora: 238 species of green, brown, red and blue-green algae have been found in the Marshall Islands.
Terrestrial Vegetation: 60% of the total land area is covered by Coconut Palms.
Marine Turtles: All five of the world’s species of marine turtles have been found in the Marshall Islands.
Marine Mammals: As many as 27 species of whales, dolphins and porpoises occur here.
Fish: More than 250 species of reef fish have been found in the Marshall Islands.
Birds: 70 species of birds have been identified of which 31 species are seabirds. Among them 15 species breed here.
Mammals: The Polynesian rat is the only species native to the RMI.
Reptiles: 7 species of lizards and 1 species of blind snake are found here.
Arthropods: Numerous species of insects, spiders and land crabs; coconut crabs are seen here.
Endangered Species: Blue whale, sperm whale, Micronesian pigeon, leatherback turtle, hawksbill turtle are found here.
